Sharing the Everyday Moments With Securus Technologies

Picture this. A family waits anxiously in the courtroom to hear the judge’s verdict. They are hoping and praying that their loved one is declared innocent. Unfortunately, he or she is declared guilty and is whisked off to a waiting vehicle for transportation to a correctional facility. At this point, the family is crushed. I would also be crushed, and would not know where to start on how to keep in touch with my incarcerated loved one. As I looked online for ways to make this transition easier, I came across Securus Technologies, and their website. What I found there amazed me.

Securus Technologies, founded in 1986, has served over 1,200,000 inmates all over North America. They have over 800 products for the law enforcement and corrections sector and are present in over 3400 corrections agencies. Services provided include incident management, emergency response, inmate self-service and many others. The aim of Securus Technologies is to take the pain out of the incarceration experience using modern technology. Get the latest news on Linkedin about Securus.

As I browsed through their website, I found that they provide communication services for inmates and their families. There are the options of the phone, video, and email communication. I would imagine that a prisoner with a young family would benefit most from video visitation, so I looked it up. On opening the link, I found that there are two options available. The first one is that of At-Home visitation, where the family can communicate with their incarcerated loved ones from the comfort of their home. All that is needed is a computer with a web camera and an internet connection. The other option is that of Onsite Video Visitation where the family can book their visit to the correctional facility in advance, thus avoiding the queues. I would pick the first option.

An impressive example of how video visitation works was recently posted online by Securus. This video shows a father who is in prison take part in his child’s birthday party, watch his kids play with their puppy, chat with his wife and see how his children are growing. These things, though part of everyday life for most of us, are treasured moments for inmates. Video visitation, therefore, keeps families together by helping them to share the everyday moments as well as the special occasions.

Having gone through their website and watched the above video, I would conclude that if I ever had the experience of having a loved one incarcerated, I would turn to Securus Technologies to help keep my family together. Securus is committed to connecting what matters – the family.
